Former barge manager convicted of conspiring to pollute S.F. Bay

A former tugboat company manager was convicted in federal court this week of violating environmental laws by dumping dredged materials in the waters north of Pittsburg.

Mark Guinn, 42, was formerly the general manager of Northern California operations of Brusco Tug & Barge Inc., which previously pled guilty to a felony Clean Water Act violation and was fined $1.5 million.

Bill to fund efforts to restore SF Bay wetlands

A 20-year wish list of San Francisco Bay wetlands restoration projects would finally receive funding under a $1 billion federal bill introduced by a Bay Area congresswoman.

The San Francisco Bay Improvement Act of 2010 by Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Hillsborough, would fund the restoration of thousands of acres of bay marshes that were filled in or destroyed by levees and other projects in the last century.
